Remember the PS22 Chorus, those talented elementary kids who sang “Somewhere Over the Rainbow” at the 2011 Academy Awards? The ones whose YouTube videos have gotten more than 44 million views?
Jersey City teacher and filmmaker Jonathan Kalafer’s documentary “Once In A Lullaby: The PS22 Chorus Story” follows choir director and teacher Gregg Breinberg and the Staten Island public school’s Oscar journey. I interviewed him for The Jersey City Independent about life as an educator, the making of the film and the powerful effect that PS22 Chorus can have on their fans.
“Once In A Lullaby: The PS22 Chorus Story” will have its world premiere will be on April 29 at the Tribeca Film Festival, followed by a Q&A about the role of technology in education with Kalafer, Breinberg and Paul King of the New York City Department of Education. The film will also be shown as part of the 30th annual New Jersey Film Festival in June.
Here is one of my favorite PS22Chorus videos from Breinberg’s YouTube channel agreggofsociety.
