After half a year of production and a long week of tech and performances, “So What If I Loved You” has come to an end.
We had an amazing time performing SWIILY at Merseles Studios in Jersey City. The show, which was presented by Jersey City Theater Center, was one of our biggest and most successful productions yet, breaking 68 Productions’ profit records! I’ve also been overwhelmed with all the positive feedback we’ve gotten from our audiences! Here are just some of the kind things attendees said to me after the show:
“You were terrific. Who knew you were so athletic? I had no idea you could dance like that. And of course your music is wonderful. You have such a nice voice…I hope everyone there appreciated how much work you put into that. I can’t believe you were able to accomplish it what with work and all your other commitments. You should be very proud.”
“Did not get a chance to speak with you after your tour de force performance of your So What If I Loved You. A tsumni of Fresh for the JC theater scene. Bold. Daring. Different. Good things have been going on in JC for decades, but sometimes some folk escape its gravitational pull. That just may be you. Thanks to you and the crew. Great new space too by the way.”
“Fabulous production at every level! I enjoyed it so much. Congratulations!”
“I enjoyed the play very much and am very happy for you. You are so talented, gifted, smart, blessed and have such a drive and tenacity that put you in such high standings. You even bought a smile to my face. I would not have missed your play for the world.”
I’m very thankful to have had such a wonderful crowd each night, and to have my talented crew behind me. Again, thank you to Liliane Wolf, Alex Pergament, DeukYun Hwang, Luke Koty, Lance A. Michel, Peter Schmidt, Carlos Nino, Shimeon Nandlal and Jeyra Toledo for their commitment and hard work making this project come life!
I’m in some ways very relieved to be out of production now, but am also sad that the show is over…at least for now.
If you missed the show or want to see it again, DVDs are available for $10! You can get them by emailing me at summerhortillosa at gmail.com. The DVDs will be out this fall.
Some also asked about our original song, “Lions,” which was part of the show. You can stream or download it on SoundCloud here!
